It's no secret that Gold Rush has garnered millions of fans, who are eagerly following the miners as they risk it all in search of the ultimate treasure.
However, not every viewer is supportive of all cast members, with fans of the thrilling reality show known for being extremely passionate and not holding back when it comes to expressing their opinions - especially about the cast.
And one miner in particular, Fred Lewis, has been the target of plenty of criticism online. However, Lewis himself has disclosed how he really feels about all the backlash he gets.
As a former Special Forces Medic and Green Beret, Fred Lewis is no stranger to hard work, but dealing with internet trolls is a new challenge for him, no doubt.
During an interview with the Idaho Press, he expressed his astonishment regarding the level of hatred he receives from numerous fans of the show.
"I honestly never knew I would have haters in my life," Lewis shared. "I've never been in a fight or had any problems with people," he added.
Unfortunately, this aspect of the entertainment industry is impossible to avoid as it comes with being a well-known television personality. Despite this, Lewis remains determined to utilize the platform he has to create a positive effect to benefit communion among fellow military veterans.
"I want vets anywhere to contact me, to email me. And that opens the floodgates for all the haters," he said. While he admits that it can get overwhelming at times, he also welcomes the opportunity to face and challenge his critics directly, stating, "Come at me, and I'll talk to you. I don't care."
Lewis had also previously revealed in an interview on Ellie in Space in 2021 that he was aware that some viewers weren't happy about his performance and lack of experience. However, he had another take on this.
"My response is always, you know, when someone goes to the police academy, they're not a cop," he stated laughingly. It takes some time, give me some time," he said.
Despite facing immense hate, it's clear that Fred Lewis is determined to prove his doubters wrong and continue his search for the treasure, showing dedication to his cause and willingness to take the good with the bad. And who knows, maybe one day he will manage to strike gold?
