Here's Exactly How SAG Strike Will Affect The Voice & Masked Singer
Will our beloved shows return this fall?
Ever since the WGA strike broke out in May, everyone in Hollywood has been fairly certain that the writers' refusal to work would significantly impact the industry, delaying a multitude of eagerly anticipated movies and shows. However, when SAG-AFTRA joined the strike last month, it became evident that the situation was now a lot worse.
It's far more challenging to produce a movie or a show without actors than without writers. Moreover, actors were prohibited not only from working on films but also from promoting them. That left fans speculating if some unscripted shows would be affected by the strike.
While shows like The Masked Singer, Dancing with the Stars, and The Voice don't heavily rely on writers, they certainly employ many actors and SAG members, which could seriously disrupt the production of their upcoming seasons. However, it seems that the situation is not as dire as some people thought.
First of all, most of the unscripted network shows operate under a so-called network code, primarily used in the production of daytime soaps and morning shows. Fortunately, the current strike hasn't stopped even SAG members from working under that code. This means that major networks such as ABC, NBC, and Fox will be able to produce their hit reality shows even though the strike is far from over.
Indeed, it seems that NBC will be able to complete both America's Got Talent and The Voice, even with SAG members Terry Crews and Sofia Vergara involved in production. Similarly, Fox still plans to commence production on the 10th season of The Masked Singer later this month, proving that producers are not scared of the strike.
While it's certainly fantastic that most of the major unscripted shows are returning to our screens this fall, the fact that enormous shows like Law & Order, Chicago Fire, and other prime-time network heavyweights have all been delayed is causing fans considerable aggravation as they brace for the dullest fall TV lineup they've ever seen.
