Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s New Film Finally Locks Release Date After Delay
After vanishing from Lionsgate’s slate, Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill’s action thriller In the Grey has finally locked a theatrical date, with Black Bear stepping in to steer the release.
Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill’s next one finally has a date again. After the movie quietly vanished from Lionsgate’s schedule and everyone was left guessing what happened, there’s now a new plan: Black Bear is putting In the Grey in theaters on April 10, 2026. Yes, that’s a big jump from the original January 17, 2025 slot. Here’s how we got from there to here.
Black Bear recently launched its U.S. distribution arm and scooped up the domestic theatrical rights after the Lionsgate delay. But Lionsgate isn’t out of the picture entirely — they’re still handling the digital and pay-TV side. It’s a very industry shuffle: one company takes it to theaters, the other gets it once you’re watching at home.
"We are thankful to our partners at Lionsgate, whose flexibility and collaboration have been instrumental in bringing this together... In the Grey features every ounce of [Ritchie’s] trademark style and wit, not to mention a hugely talented cast led by Jake, Henry, and Eiza," said Benjamin Kramer, Black Bear’s President of U.S. Distribution, in comments carried by THR.
So what is In the Grey? Ritchie wrote and directed it, and the setup is very much his lane: a shadow-ops crew that operates off the books, mixing charm, bullets, and a whole lot of explosives. Their target is a billion-dollar fortune swiped by a brutal strongman. What starts as a slick, high-risk score spirals into a globe-trotting mess of double-crosses and survival.
- Release: April 10, 2026 (U.S. theaters) via Black Bear
- Digital/Pay-TV: Lionsgate will oversee those windows
- Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, Eiza Gonzalez, Kristofer Hivju, Fisher Stevens, Rosamund Pike
- Writer/Director: Guy Ritchie
- Producers: Guy Ritchie and Ivan Atkinson for Toff Guy; John Friedberg for Black Bear; Dave Caplan for C2
- Opening weekend competition: The Christophers (Neon), You, Me & Tuscany (Universal; starring Halle Bailey and Rege-Jean Page), plus two untitled releases from Shudder Films and Gkids
- Also on Black Bear’s 2026 slate: Shelter, an action thriller starring Jason Statham and directed by Ric Roman Waugh, dated for January 30, 2026
If you’re keeping score: the film was once on Lionsgate’s calendar for early 2025, then disappeared without explanation, and is now resurfacing with Black Bear steering the theatrical release. The upside is it sounds like classic Ritchie with a killer lineup. The downside is you’ll be waiting until spring 2026 to see it.
