The love and friendship seen on screen doesn’t end there.

The wildly popular TV show Heartstopper is a contemporary coming-of-age drama revolving around a group of diverse friends who stick together through everything life and high school throws at them.

The show is praised for its diversity, inclusion, warmth and authenticity, which producer Pat Walters attributes to Heartstopper having a truly diverse cast and crew, only hiring actors who had a genuine essence of the characters about them in the first place.

This authenticity in the casting process has resulted in the cast's friendships mirroring the deep and loving friendships portrayed on the show. And here's proof.

Joe Locke and Sebastian Croft

This pair's on-screen relationship was a difficult one to watch, with Joe Locke portraying Charlie, the out gay teen, and Sebastian Croft playing the school bully who coerces Charlie into a secret toxic relationship in order to explore his own sexuality.

However, Joe and Sebastian's off-screen dynamic couldn't be more different. The two are often seen together at events and festivals and are constantly referencing each other on social media. Fans have in the past been keen to debate whether these two are just best friends or whether their cuddling and flirtatious banter has led to something more romantic between them.

With these two playing Nick and Charlie, the couple at the heart of the cute and romantic Heartstopper world, it is so satisfying to see that they also seem to be such good friends behind the scenes. Both have commented that they get on really well and consider each other to be best friends.

Connor explains that they have the kind of dynamic where they are comfortable enough to make fun of each other in a playful way and just be at ease around each other all the time. The fun and banter between them is evident in all the joint interviews they do, and this summer they were also seen together at many Queer Pride events.

Although Kit, Sebastian and Joe are often at the centre of both fan and media attention, there have been many occasions when more of the Heartstopper boys have been seen together having fun and enjoying the perks of being young and famous.

This weekend was a prime example as Fisayo Akinade, the actor who plays the warm and caring art teacher Mr. Ajayi, got married to his partner Adam. Many of the cast were seen attending the celebrations, and many pictures and videos of the Heartstopper Lads were posted on social media.

The cast and crew of Heartstopper seem like a family behind the scenes and off screen. With nearly all of the cast in their late teens or twenties, it's no surprise that during filming there is an near constant stream of Gen Z-style photo dumps on social media, giving us all a glimpse of their antics.

Perhaps the most endearing thing to see, however, is that the cast don't just keep to themselves, they are often spotted hanging out with members of the crew, proving that the atmosphere behind the production of the show has friendship and love at its core.

Amongst the many photos of the cast together, there are also many sweet moments with the cast and Alice Oseman - the creator of the graphic novels and TV show, as well as the show's resident music artist for Season 1, Baby Queen.

It's not essential for the cast of a movie or series to be best friends, as long as they have good chemistry on screen. However, it's wonderful to witness those relationships extend beyond the show and become genuine friendships, and Heartstopper certainly achieves this. It has likely contributed to the show's greatness, as the actors didn't have to pretend to like each other while in character. Not only do fans enjoy watching their interactions on the show, but they also love seeing their beautiful friendships continue in real life.
