Though the official teaser released in April 2023 had the line 'coming this year,' an inside source confirmed to TVLine yesterday that the new season starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis will land on Max in January 2024, and the official HBO site now reads 'Season 4 coming 2024.'
While the network did not explain the delay, it's safe to assume that the Hollywood strikes influenced the decision. Streaming services are trying to hold onto anticipated projects and spread out their premieres, hoping that it will keep subscribers on the platform longer than the unions can stay on strike.
This fall, Barbie will likely dominate Max and bring in millions of subscribers, and True Detective is expected to take over in January. While understandable, this strategy does not sit well with the viewers who were eagerly anticipating the new chapter in the gritty mystery.
