HBO doubles down on Westeros: Game of Thrones spinoffs House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are renewed with new release windows locked, Casey Bloys announced.

HBO is doubling down on Westeros. Two Game of Thrones spinoffs just locked in extra seasons before their new ones even hit the air, which is a very HBO move. Translation: they like what they have, and yes, the wait is going to be long.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

First up, the Dunk and Egg show. 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' has been renewed for Season 2 ahead of its debut season. Season 1 premieres Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Season 2 is slated for 2027.

Set about a century before Game of Thrones, the series follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. HBO is leaning into the adventurous vibe here:

"Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."

Peter Claffey plays Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell is Egg. The Season 1 ensemble also includes Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks.

George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker co-created the series, adapting Martin's 'Tales of Dunk and Egg' novellas.

House of the Dragon

The flagship prequel is not going anywhere. 'House of the Dragon' picked up a Season 4 renewal ahead of its third season, which will air in summer 2026. Season 4 is slated for 2028.

Set roughly 200 years before Game of Thrones and based on Martin's 'Fire & Blood,' the show traces the rise and eventual fall of House Targaryen. Martin and Ryan Condal co-created the series.

Season 3's cast features Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim.

Who made the call and where to watch

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, announced the renewals. Both series air on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
