HBO isn’t waiting for the finale: the network has staked out a release window for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, confirmed by CEO Casey Bloys in a new Deadline interview as Season 1 continues its run.

Good news if you are already hooked on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: HBO is planning to keep this one on a steady drumbeat. Even though Season 1 is still rolling out, HBO just gave a clear hint at when Season 2 hits, and teased what might come after.

So, when is Season 2?

HBO boss Casey Bloys told Deadline that Season 2 is coming next year. The bigger headline: they want this show on a yearly schedule.

'This will be annual.'

Bloys explained that an every-year cadence is not possible for all series, but when it makes sense creatively, HBO is pushing to get back to it. Season 2 was already ordered and, according to Bloys, the team is producing it now, with Season 3 lined up to follow.

How long could the series run?

This is where things get a little more in the air. George R.R. Martin only published three Dunk and Egg novellas, but he has said the show can dig into stories we have not seen on the page. Bloys called anything beyond the next couple of seasons too early to judge. If there is more to tell, that is a conversation he says would happen with showrunner Ira Parker and Martin. Translation: it could continue, but no promises yet.

  • Season 2: planned for next year, with HBO aiming for one season per year
  • Production: Season 2 is underway now; Season 3 is planned to follow
  • Future seasons: possible, but depends on talks between Casey Bloys, Ira Parker, and George R.R. Martin
  • Current status: Season 1 is mid-run on HBO, streaming on Max
