Hawkeye Producer Finally Explains the Real Reason Season 2 Hasn't Hit Disney+ Yet
Hawkeye fans are still waiting for a second season, and now producer Andrew Guest is shedding light on why the hit Disney+ MCU series hasn’t made its return—even after more than four years of speculation and silence.
So, you’ve probably noticed Hawkeye hasn’t exactly been racing back onto Disney+ with a Season 2. It’s been, what, over four years since the first batch of episodes dropped, and still nothing official about a follow-up. If you’re wondering what’s actually going on behind the scenes, well… grab your trick arrows.
Waiting on Hawkeye: What’s the Deal?
Andrew Guest, who was a consulting producer on Hawkeye’s first season and is also steering the upcoming Wonder Man series, recently addressed the big question: why is Season 2 stuck in limbo? In a pretty candid chat, Guest said that yes, they actually have had conversations about making more Hawkeye. They even started coming up with ideas for where the show could go next. But, as is tradition with everything Marvel on Disney+, things got tangled up in 'timing.' Basically, it sounds like there are just too many moving Marvel pieces, schedules, and priorities getting in the way.
'There was talk at a certain point about... we did explore creatively what Season 2 of Hawkeye might be if we were able to do it,' Guest explained. 'Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out in terms of Marvel and all the various pieces that need to come together, but I loved working on Hawkeye. I think Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld are so terrific together, and I would love to see more of those two.'
The Jeremy Renner Factor
Of course, you can’t talk Hawkeye without talking about Jeremy Renner. Last year, he let it slip that Marvel actually did approach him for a second season. Here’s the catch: they were apparently offering him half the money compared to his first season. This bombshell came out after Renner’s brutal snowplow accident in January 2023, so you can see why things might have been complicated — not just for Marvel, but for Renner himself.
- Marvel asked Renner back for Season 2, but with a pay cut: literally half the amount he earned for Season 1.
- Renner’s comment: 'They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, "Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount."' (He’s not wrong — that’s a bad deal.)
- More recently, though, Renner seems more upbeat about possibly coming back. He told The Playlist: 'We got to where we’re trying to do the second season, and I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.'
Where Does That Leave Us?
So here’s where things stand: Hawkeye Season 2 is reportedly in some stage of development, but nothing’s greenlit and absolutely nobody on the Marvel side is ready to announce anything concrete. The creative team has thought about where the story could go, and Renner is, for now, sounding open to the idea — if the terms make sense and his recovery stays on track.
Long story short: If you’re hoping for more of Renner and Hailee Steinfeld trading banter and causing chaos in NYC, it’s still a waiting game. In the MCU, patience is apparently the most important superpower of all.
