Harry Potter Star David Thewlis Is Done With Return Questions
Harry Potter alum David Thewlis has had it with comeback questions as HBO’s TV reboot looms.
David Thewlis has heard every Harry Potter question under the sun, and he is officially over it. If you were holding out hope for a Lupin comeback in the new TV take on the series, consider that hope gently placed in the bin.
What he said
Asked recently if he would return as Professor Remus Lupin for the upcoming Harry Potter series, or even show up as a different character, Thewlis kept it simple:
"I feel like I'd be far too old to play my original character now, and, no, I wouldn't want to go back into it," he said.
"I've had quite enough of that. I'm sick of talking about it, quite honestly."
Where this leaves the reboot
HBO is developing a series reboot based on J.K. Rowling's novels. There is no official word yet on whether Lupin will appear, but Thewlis has removed himself from any conversations about playing the character again. Or anyone else, for that matter.
A quick refresher
Thewlis first showed up as the werewolf professor in 2004's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and went on to appear in five of the eight films. He is a veteran British actor with a wide range, bouncing between gritty indies and big studio projects, but Lupin remains the role most people recognize him for. Which explains why he keeps getting asked about it. And why he sounds very ready to move on.
Bottom line: if Lupin is in the new show, it will not be Thewlis under the shabby cardigan.
