Get ready to laugh—Anna Faris teams up with the writers of The Hangover for Spa Weekend, a new comedy also starring Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Michelle Buteau, hitting theaters this Labor Day weekend.

So, if you like your comedies with a side of chaos, this one's for you: Anna Faris is back with a brand new movie, 'Spa Weekend', written and directed by the guys behind 'The Hangover'. Yeah, you read that right. The same duo who created the infamous wolfpack is now sending Faris and crew to a luxury spa... and, obviously, it doesn't go as planned.

What You Need to Know

  • Cast: It's not just Faris. You've also got Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Michelle Buteau along for the ride.
  • Who's making it: Jon Lucas and Scott Moore—the brains behind 'The Hangover' trilogy, plus 'Bad Moms' and '21 & Over'—are writing and directing. That's their thing: wild comedies about people spiraling out of control.
  • Release Date: Mark your calendar for September 4, 2026, AKA Labor Day weekend.
  • Producers: Black Bear is on board, along with Team Todd (that's Suzanne Todd's company) and Australia-based Brouhaha Entertainment handling the local production work.

The Story

Here's how the official plot sets things up: Three best friends—Jane, Coco, and Sophie—are desperate for a little R&R, so they head to Palm Springs for a fancy spa weekend. Of course, their break is gatecrashed by their hot-mess friend, Mel (that's Anna Faris), and you can imagine what happens when the chaos ratchets up and all bets are off. Hollywood has a thing for group-trip-gone-wrong comedies, but this one leans hard into the spa retreat from hell category.

'The film follows three best friends, Jane, Coco, and Sophie, as they embark on some much-needed pampering during a luxury spa break in Palm Springs. But when their trainwreck friend, Mel, turns up, the relaxation quickly descends into chaos with hilarious consequences.'

When & Where Did They Shoot This?

This movie's announcement dates back to August 2024, but they actually started shooting in February 2025. And here's the twist: they filmed it in Queensland, Australia, even though it's set in Palm Springs. (If you notice an Australian palm tree that doesn't quite look Californian, now you know why.) Brouhaha Entertainment, the local fixer, has worked on other projects in Queensland—including the Netflix miniseries 'Boy Swallows Universe' and the upcoming 'Dangerous Animals'.

The 'Hangover' Guys Strike Again

Lucas and Moore aren't exactly newcomers at this trick. They wrote the first 'Hangover' (plus the sequels), but they're also responsible for 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past', 'Chicken Little', 'Flypaper', and that one weird technophobic comedy 'Jexi'. Their directorial debut, '21 & Over', didn't wow critics but made okay money worldwide. 'Bad Moms' was a bigger success—over $183 million at the box office and a 59% Rotten Tomatoes rating (which, by comedy standards, is basically a gold star). 'A Bad Moms Christmas' mostly got bad reviews, but it still crossed $130 million globally. So, yeah, these guys know how to make a movie that gets attention, even if not all of it is positive.

Faris Isn’t Stopping There

If Anna Faris fans weren't already happy enough, she's also set to reprise her role as Cindy Campbell in 'Scary Movie 6' in 2026. So in addition to spa shenanigans, expect her back in ridiculous horror spoof mode next year as well.
