It looks like the actress suffered quite a bit after her groundbreaking Oscar speech.

While Gwyneth Paltrow is considered one of Hollywood's most revered actresses, that wasn't the case some 25 years ago when she was just an up-and-coming actress trying to make it in the competitive industry.

Then Gwyneth was lucky enough to land a starring role in Shakespeare in Love and eventually win an Oscar for her performance in 1999.

However, even though Paltrow managed to beat out the likes of Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchette to win the award, some critics hated the Academy's decision, criticizing the actress not only for her role, but also for her acceptance speech.

During her speech, Paltrow famously broke down while thanking her parents, as her father had already been diagnosed with cancer at the time. The actress felt so much stress during the Oscars that she just let go and let her emotions run free.

While this is understandable, it looks like some of the journalists took it upon themselves to lambast the actress for crying on stage and said some horrible things about her.

'I remember I was working in England… and I remember the British press being so horrible to me because I cried. And they didn't necessarily know that my father was dying of cancer,' Paltrow lamented.

Moreover, it seems that winning an Oscar at just 26 years old made Paltrow really unsure of her future in acting. The star felt there was nothing else she needed to prove to the world, as her accolades already made her a desired and accomplished actress.

'Once I won the Oscar, it put me into a bit of an identity crisis, because if you win the biggest prize, like what are you supposed to do? And where are you supposed to go?' Paltrow said.

So it looks like Paltrow's sabbatical from acting was something she had been thinking about ever since her Oscar win, and the star seems more than happy now, spending her time on business endeavors instead of pushing herself in front of movie cameras.

The actress' fans will always support her no matter what, and those critics who made fun of her should feel ashamed for how they treated the Oscar winner.
