Grey's Fans Can Hate on Teddy All They Want, Kim Raver Actually Loves It
Grey's Anatomy has been on screens for an impressive 19-season run, and over that time has gained a massive global following and has had an ever-growing list of beloved favorite characters, and just as many characters that fans disliked, and others that they even hated.
Some of the most despicable characters include the likes of Dr. Ellis Grey and Jo Wilson’s abusive ex-husband Dr. Paul Stadler. Also appearing on this list is Dr. Teddy Altman, and while fans are divided as to how much they actually hate Teddy, the actress who plays her is unaffected.
In fact, she has no problem being hated and relishes it. The actress was quoted in a recent interview saying, "I love it. I love when they're upset."
Whilst fans are all for watching their favorite surgeons scrub in for risky surgeries, tackle complex cases and compete to be the best, there is a whole nother side to Grey's Anatomy:
The drama.
Fans are drawn to the medical side of the show but become invested in the riveting drama happening behind the scenes, in the personal lives of the doctors and residents. Their personal dilemmas, complicated love lives, and family breakdowns. Whilst Teddy Altman is a talented surgeon and respected mentor, her character delivers when it comes to the drama and scandalous side of things, and this is what the show needs and fans love.
So, what got Teddy so much hate?
After giving birth to partner Owen Hunt’s baby, she had an affair with another doctor, which left fans shocked and appalled watching it all play out, and it kept getting better (and worse).
Teddy’s infidelity was revealed when she accidentally sent Owen a voicemail of her and Tom going at it one last time, on the day of what was meant to be her and Owen’s wedding.
The actress explained that viewers want to see people being human and this means having flaws and making mistakes, and her character does just this, even though many fans don't approve of her actions, and are angry and resentful towards her for hurting Owen.
No matter whether fans love her, hate her, or empathize with her, Raver explains that, "They're on the journey with me to figure out how to get on a better path and be a better person."
Many experienced actors and actresses do not know how to deal with their characters getting hate, and they often take it personally. Kim Raver on the other hand sleeps well at night knowing the hate towards her character ensures fans remain emotionally invested in the show, and she considers that a job well done.
