Got Your First Netflix Subscription? Here Are 7 Shows Not Worth Watching
Seriously, don't waste your time.
So you gave in and joined the Netflix revolution? Well, congratulations! You're about to get some great TV. But the streaming service offers a huge amount of content, and unsurprisingly, it can't all be good.
Here are 7 shows to avoid like the plague:
7. Black Summer
There's no shortage of TV shows and movies about the zombie apocalypse. So if you're going to air one, it has to have something that makes it stand out. And that's the problem with Black Summer. There is literally nothing memorable about it. In fact, this show is so vanilla, it's a great argument for why the WGA is against AI getting involved in scriptwriting.
6. The Mist
The Mist is a great book by Stephen King. Sadly, the show did not do justice to the source material. It could (should) have been gripping. But somehow the producers managed to turn a chilling story into something as bland as baby food. Best to give it a miss.
5. Hemlock Grove
This show is a horror that begins with strange goings-on in a fictional Pennsylvania town. When it was first released on Netflix, it got huge viewing figures. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Maybe if fewer people had seen it, the critical reception wouldn't have been so bad. Inexplicably, it was renewed for a second season, which was even worse.
4. The Legend of Cocaine Island
Thought-provoking documentary is a genre that has been on the rise across all streaming platforms in recent years. That means this story of Rodney Hyden, a man who had no reason to go looking for a lost shipment of cocaine, but did anyway. Spoiler alert: he's not very good at it, and the production reflects that.
3. Suzzanna: Buried Alive
This is a Netflix movie that does exactly what it says on the tin. The movie is about a woman named Suzanna who is (you guessed it) buried alive. What they probably should have added was 'and then comes back for revenge'. It might not have attracted too many viewers, but it would have been more accurate. Weak characters and poor writing turned a decent premise into a terrible show.
2. Bonding
A college student decides to make some money by offering a dominatrix service in this sitcom that feels like it should have been much more successful. She recruits her gay best friend to help her, and it seems like the perfect recipe for a funny show. But it's terribly written. The jokes are bad and the acting is below par. Do yourself a favour and watch something else.
1. The Dirt
A biopic that deals with some pretty dark topics like the excesses in the music industry. And it might have worked if it wasn't so lacking in empathy. When it comes to stories about people we don't know, the onus is on the producers of the show to make them likeable. In this case, they failed miserably.
