The iconic show is back but not everywhere.

Some shows remain relevant even though they premiered decades ago. For example, Sex and the City is still a hit despite being released in the late 1990s. In fact, it's so popular with audiences that it has spawned multiple spin-offs over the years – the second season of the prequel, And Just Like That…, is currently airing. Similarly, Friends remains one of the most-watched sitcoms to this day.

The CW's Gossip Girl is another such timeless show.

When it debuted in 2007, everybody knew instantly it was going to be a smashing hit: the unusual narrative delivered by a mysterious and omniscient narrator, the eponymous Gossip Girl, who runs a popular blog on the internet, quickly secured a special place in viewers' hearts and became an inspiration for many subsequent projects. For instance, Netflix's flagship show, Bridgerton, employs the same technique.

In addition to the captivating storytelling, Gossip Girl boasted a stellar cast. Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, and Kristen Bell all made important contributions to the show's success and became stars throughout its six seasons.

While six seasons may not be the longest run for an incredibly popular TV show, Gossip Girl has never truly been off the air. The franchise was almost immediately expanded with international adaptations. The show then streamed on several platforms, including Netflix, where it was available from 2018 to 2021, until HBO Max released an eponymous sequel.

Some two years on, gossip goes around that the show will be available on Netflix once again. However, there's a catch. Reportedly, Gossip Girl will be available on the streaming platform in only a few countries. Netflix UK has recently confirmed that the iconic show will be returning to the platform in the coming days.

Other regions that have confirmed the show's release include France, Spain, and Latin America. So far, these are the only branches of the company to have confirmed they'll be adding the classic show to their catalogue. As for North America, the show's future on the platform remains uncertain.
