God of War and Dark Knight Rises Star Christopher Judge Hails Christopher Nolan as a True Genius — But Says His Directing Style Can Rattle Actors
Ever wonder what a Christopher Nolan set is really like? Christopher Judge pulls back the curtain with a rare inside look.
Christopher Judge had a very Christopher Judge way of describing what it is like to work for Christopher Nolan: respectful, a little rattled, and pretty funny. While he is the voice and performance-capture force behind Kratos in the God of War games, Judge also popped up in Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises as one of Bane's henchmen. And yes, he has thoughts.
Christopher Judge on Nolan: genius, minimal feedback, mild panic
Speaking on stage at MCM London, according to a press release, Judge praised Nolan while also admitting the director's on-set style can mess with your head if you are used to constant notes.
"I did Dark Knight Rises with Christopher Nolan, who's a true genius, but he doesn't really talk to you as an actor a lot so it's very disconcerting. Actors are fragile, they gotta be told exactly every 3.7 minutes 'you're wonderful babe, you're doing great' and Nolan doesn't do that."
That tracks if you have heard, well, anything about how Nolan runs a set: focused, precise, and not exactly a hand-holding vibe.
Nolan's next: The Odyssey is huge (and sounds like it)
Up next for Nolan is The Odyssey, his take on Homer's epic. Matt Damon is playing Odysseus, with Tom Holland as his son Telemachus. The rest of the lineup is stacked:
- Jon Bernthal
- Anne Hathaway
- Robert Pattinson
- Charlize Theron
- Elliot Page
- Lupita Nyong'o
- Benny Safdie
- ...and more
"It was an incredible experience," Benny Safdie said recently about The Odyssey. "If I explained to you the scale of what it was and how it happened, you wouldn't even believe me. It really was remarkable to see this period of time come to life the way that it did. It was amazing."
Expect to actually see it July 17, 2026.
No, Judge is not playing live-action Kratos (at least for now)
In case you caught the rumor that Judge might bring Kratos to Prime Video's God of War series, he shot that down. When a post claimed he was in talks to star, Judge replied on Twitter/X: "I am???" and added that his response included three shrugging emojis and a heart. Translation: do not count on it yet.
