Go Doc! Who Knew Virgin River's Tim Matheson Was Such a Heartthrob Once?
Young Tim Matheson is here to steal your heart and take your breath away.
The 75-year-old Virgin River star is a Hollywood veteran. Matheson got his first acting job in 1961, and since then his roles in film and especially television have grown exponentially.
His peers know him as the hot star of many popular TV shows, but newer generations remember him mostly for his later roles, such as Dave Malone on This Is Us and Doc Mullins on Virgin River.
Doc is a favorite character for many viewers, who constantly praise Matheson's performance in the romantic drama series.
That's why many Virgin River fans will be surprised to find out that in his prime, Matheson was not only a brilliant actor, but also a true heartthrob. The recently resurfaced throwback photo certainly proves it.
Matheson's image, shared by HELLO!, shows the actor in the 1970s, around the time he was building a dedicated fan base through his work on the shows Yours, Mine and Ours and How To Commit Marriage.
In his hand, Matheson holds a bag containing a volleyball, which, combined with his ripped physique, makes him look more like an athlete than an actor.
Looking at young Matheson's charming smile in this and other photos from the past, it is easy to see how he could be the sex symbol of his time. If people had social media back then, he would undoubtedly be crowned everyone's internet crush.
Today, Matheson is stealing hearts as Doc. Virgin River fans just can't get enough of the charming character, his arc, his hilarious and sweet relationship with the show's protagonist, Mel, and the genuine respect Doc has for his main love interest, Hope McCrea, played by Annette O'Toole.
According to the plot, Doc and Hope have been a couple for many years, and fans find that they belong together. Especially since they found another picture from the 1970s of the two actors hugging.
It turned out that young Tim Matheson and Annette O'Toole starred together in the 1977-1978 anthology series What Really Happened to the Class of '65? This certainly explains the special chemistry between the two actors in Virgin River. And looking at the beautiful young people in the picture, we can definitely imagine how Doc and Hope fell for each other.
