Three months after stepping back from General Hospital and relocating to Nashville with her daughter, Kirsten Storms, who plays Maxie, has revealed details of an upcoming brain surgery—and fans are rallying with prayers and support.

Hard news out of Port Charles: Kirsten Storms, who plays Maxie on General Hospital, says she is heading into brain surgery. The update lands about three months after she stepped away from the show and relocated to Nashville with her daughter.

What she shared

Storms posted on Instagram that a recent follow-up scan uncovered a brain aneurysm on the left side. Doctors first tried to treat it with a coiling procedure (a less invasive attempt to fix an aneurysm), but that didn’t work. Surgery is now being scheduled, and she expects to go in within the next two weeks.

How we got here

  • 2021: Storms had a cyst removed.
  • January 2025: A follow-up scan after that 2021 procedure revealed a left-side brain aneurysm.
  • Doctors attempted coiling, but it wasn’t successful.
  • Surgery is being set for the next two weeks.
  • Roughly three months ago: she took a temporary break from General Hospital and moved to Nashville with her daughter.

Why the move to Nashville

In the same update, she explained the cross-country move was both personal and practical: it was about her daughter, Harper, and also about prioritizing her physical health, mental health, and general happiness after leaving Los Angeles.

For my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me. The biggest reason for the move was Harper, but a lot of it was for my physical and mental health. And my overall happiness.

Fans are rallying

General Hospital fan pages quickly amplified the news, and the comments sections are basically a wall of support: prayers, well wishes, and a whole lot of speedy-recovery messages. In other words, the fandom’s doing what it does best when one of their own needs it.

It’s a tough update, but she’s being clear and proactive about the plan. Here’s hoping for a smooth surgery and an even smoother recovery.
