Have you noticed the remarkable similarity between the arcs of Marie and Starlight?

If you find the Marie Moreau arc from Gen V strangely familiar, you are not hallucinating. We saw a very similar storyline in The Boys.

In fact, Marie is going through the same journey as Annie January, aka Starlight, and this may even hint at her future.

Eerie Resemblance

Gen V begins with Marie enrolling in Vought's Godolkin University for teenagers superpowered by Compound V. Marie is a blood bender and dreams of becoming a true hero to make up for the guilt of the past. That's why she strives to join the university's School of Crimefighting.

As unexpected events unfold, Marie, with her pure intentions, becomes the object of public attention and is chosen by Vought as the new star of the university. Dreams come true sooner than she thought.

But the more Marie explores life in the spotlight and Vought's dirty and cruel corporate ways, the more she realizes that she is not a hero, but a puppet in the hands of the company's bosses, needed only to create a positive public image.

With some minor differences, Marie's story follows Starlight's arc. When Annie January first joined the Seven, she was a naive and inspired hero who wanted to save the world. Unfortunately, from day one, all of her ideas about supes were shattered by a sexual assault and violence in the Vought Tower.

Marie's Future

This similarity between the protagonists is a tease for how things may unfold in Gen V in the future. Like Starlight, Marie is set to become frustrated with Vought and everything they're doing, and understand that the real evil worth fighting is this sinister corporation.

Annie joined the Boys to destroy the Seven, and Marie is likely to join her peers who are already angry at Vought for Golden Boy's death and the experimental torture chambers under the university.

For Marie, such a move is harder to make because her stakes are much higher. She is a teenager with a tragic past, and expulsion from the University is tantamount to imprisonment in the Sage Grove Center or some other equally horrific facility. But that just makes Gen V all the more exciting.

Gen V Episode 5 will land on Prime at midnight UTC on October 13th.
