Game of Thrones Alum Scores Fifth Beatle Role in New Beatles Movies
Sony Pictures has recruited a Game of Thrones alum as the fifth Beatle for Sam Mendes’ bold four-film Beatles event, with the interlocking saga set to hit theaters in April 2028.
Sam Mendes is making not one, but four Beatles movies. Yes, four. And Sony just added a crucial piece to the puzzle: the guy often called the 'fifth Beatle' finally has an actor.
'Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.'
The new addition
Per Variety, Harry Lloyd (yep, Viserys from Game of Thrones) is set to play producer George Martin. If you know the Beatles, you know Martin was the studio architect behind their sound and was involved in all of the band’s original albums. Over a 60-year career, he won six Grammys and worked with a long list of heavy hitters, including Kenny Rogers, Elton John, and Celine Dion. Getting the right actor for Martin matters; he was an actual creative partner, not just the guy in the control room.
The lineup so far
- Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
- Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
- Joseph Quinn (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) as George Harrison
- Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr
- Harry Lloyd as producer George Martin
- Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney
- Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono
- Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd
- Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey
- James Norton as manager Brian Epstein
How this four-film thing works
Sony is backing what they’re calling a four-film cinematic event, all directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, 1917). Each movie will center on one Beatle, which is a smart way to avoid the usual greatest-hits biopic trap and actually let each perspective breathe.
The scripts come from Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne. Mendes is also producing with Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire.
Timeline check
Production is underway now and is expected to run through late 2026. The plan is to release the whole event in April 2028. Ambitious? Definitely. But if you’re going to swing for the fences with the Beatles, this is how you do it.
