From Costars to Catfights: 10 Actresses Who Hated Each Other in Real Life
Who needs script writers when you have real life drama?
Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano
Shannen has always had a short fuse that led to numerous arguments with colleagues on set. Quite a few directors refuse to work with her because of her temper. Producer Aaron Spelling, however, really appreciated her talent and invited her to work on his new project, Charmed, despite the notoriety she had gained during the filming of Beverly Hills, 90210.
Charmed became a cult classic, but what viewers didn’t know about was all the fighting that went on between the stars on set. Shannen was constantly arguing with her co-star Alyssa Milano and at one point an argument escalated into a physical altercation.
That was it, Doherty had to be let go from the show. She was allowed to come up with a way to retire her character from the show. Prue gets killed by a demon, not a very original plot twist, but it was very short notice, so we can cut Shannen some slack on this one. The following season, a different sister joined the roster. That role went to Rose McGowan.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall
The Sex and the City characters are besties who are always ready to help each other. The reality on set couldn’t have been more different: the actresses were actually feuding with each other all through the show. Or rather Kim Cattral was feuding with Sarah Jessica Parker and Sarah didn’t think about Kim at all.
Kim was pissed that Sarah got more money and attention than the other actors, even though everybody worked equally hard. Furthermore, Kim took every opportunity to ignore Sara Jessica Parker’s input and let her colleague know she hated her guts. Even though Parker repeatedly said in interviews she had never really argued with Kim, Kim insisted they were sworn enemies.
Sarah says she simply ignored Kim’s outbursts and zingers and enjoyed the filming process, so in the end everybody got along and a classic show got made.
Kim, by contrast, is still seething, demanding that Sarah stop talking about their friendship and refrain from mentioning her at all. Kim claims Sarah is just a huge hypocrite who likes to appear nice in public but in reality is rotten to the core.
Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross
Despite being desperately faithful to each other on screen, in real life the actresses didn’t like each other one bit. Teri would always pick fights on set. It eventually got so bad, the producers even nicknamed her the most evil woman in the world.
Teri fought with everyone but her favourite target was Marcia. Teri was really envious of the money Marica was getting for the show. She was convinced that all the actors should get the same salary. Then, when during a photo shoot for the show, Teri was put in the back row rather than up front and centre, she totally lost it and started swearing like a drunken sailor.
Blake Lively and Leighton Meester
Gossip Girl’s Blair and Serena are besties. The show was super popular to a large extent because viewers enjoyed watching the beautiful friendship between the two characters the actresses played. Well, that goes to show how talented Blake and Leighton really are, because in real life they hated each other’s guts.
When they were not filming, they just stayed away from each other. At the same time, there was constant competition between them. They both wanted to be the centre of attention. Even now that Gossip Girl has ended, Blake and Leighton are still avoiding each other.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alison Hannigan
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars really hit it off at first and often hung out together even when they weren’t filming for the show. At one point, however, they had a major falling out and Sarah even left the project, briefly, which Alison thought was childish and irresponsible of her.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is ancient history but the two actresses are still not talking to each other.
