The revival show made the fans a little sad.

When Paramount + suddenly announced plans to revive the iconic sitcom Frasier for a brand new season, fans of the wry psychiatrist played by Kelsey Grammer were ecstatic, hoping to see the beloved characters as soon as possible. However, when the streaming service finally premiered the trailer for the new season, fans were a bit disappointed, as it looks like the upcoming season has ruined the original show for good.

Even though the premise of Frasier moving to Boston to repair his relationship with his adult son sounded quite interesting, as fans were fully expecting some kind of reunion between Frasier and the rest of the Cheers cast, the trailer made that storyline seem depressing and unoriginal.

A ruined finale

As all fans of Frasier know, in the iconic series finale, the snobbish radio host decided not to pursue his career in San Francisco and instead traveled to Chicago to follow his love, as Laura Linney's Charlotte had just moved there. With such a finale, fans were sure that Frasier had finally found his soulmate after years of searching, and that made saying goodbye to the beloved character a little easier.

In the trailer, however, Frasier is once again single and chasing women despite his age. Needless to say, this really pissed off the fans, as the writers' decision to change the original finale ruined something the original show had been building up to for eleven seasons.

This is absolutely not how revival shows are supposed to work, and people are already considering boycotting the show altogether.

'I'm not saying it can't have funny moments, but I just feel bad for Frasier. It's bleak that a guy of a certain age is putting himself through all this after the promise of the 2004 finale. "That which we are", and all that. Dang,' a fan said.

The fact that David Hyde Pierce will not return to the show as Niles Crane also makes fans a bit depressed, as his character was essential to the show's success.

Frasier arrives on Paramount + on October 12.
