A blast from the past: do you remember these?

The Masked Singer premiered on American television relatively recently. The show first aired on Fox in 2019, and Season 2 followed the same year. Ever since then, the reality singing competition has had two seasons a year, amassing nine in total at the moment. Season 9 is currently on the air and approaching its end as only semi-finals and finals are left.

Over the nine seasons, there have been plenty of surprising moments on The Masked Singer, which all stemmed from the show's unique concept where the stars have to perform in head-to-toe disguise and the celebrity panelists and fans guess their identities.

Let's look at the five biggest scandals in the show's four and a half years' run.

1. Twitter Leak

In Season 7 of TMS, Firefly's identity was almost revealed by a post on the show's seemingly official Twitter account. At that moment, the contestant hadn't yet been officially unmasked. Although the Tweet was nearly instantly deleted, the scandal was already there as the top of Firefly's head without the costume could be seen in the photo attached.

Eventually, the picture was proved to be fake, but the prankster correctly guessed it was Teyana Taylor behind the mask.

2. Lost Head

The same seventh season saw another contestant, McTerrier, lose the head of the costume during their performance in the first episode. Despite quickly covering up and retaining the mystery of their identity, the contestant was unmasked again at the end of the episode — this time deliberately. Duff Goldman was behind the mask.

3. Untimely Unmasking

Unlike the previous contestant, Gremlin disclosed their identity willingly in the second episode of Season 4. Mickey Rourke took the head off his costume right after his performance, much to the shock of the audience and the panelists.

4. Unbearable Bear

In the third season, Bear, who sang the pretty lewd 'Baby Got Back' by Sir Mix-a-Lot, turned out to be notorious Republican politician Sarah Palin. As nobody expected this kind of a contestan, the panelists first assumed it was Tina Fey, who used to portray Palin on Saturday Night Live.

5. Unsatisfying Unboxing

Another infamous politician appeared on TMS in the unfortunate Season 7 as Jack in the Box. The ex-mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, evoked an outrage even before the episode aired as his unmasking had been leaked on the Internet. Everyone was shocked, and Ken Jeong even left the panel in tremor.

The Masked Singer Season 9 has so far gone swimmingly. The next episode airs on May 10 on Fox.
