Here is one of those throw-together spreads that tastes restaurant-level but takes almost no time or gear. You can crank it out in 10–15 minutes with basic fridge staples, spoon it on toast for breakfast, park it on the table for a quick snack, or dress it up and let it pretend to be a party appetizer. It does all of the above without complaining.
What you need (about 8 servings)
- Crab sticks — 150 g
- Cream cheese — 150 g
- Light mayonnaise — 1 tablespoon (plus a little extra if needed)
- Garlic — 1 clove
- Fresh herbs — to taste
- Ciabatta or any good bread — for serving
How to make it
Finely chop the crab sticks with a knife or blitz them briefly in a blender. If they are slightly frozen, skip both and run them over the large holes of a grater instead — it is faster and cleaner.
Press the garlic clove through a garlic press (or mince it very finely if that is your style), and chop the herbs.
In a bowl, mix the chopped crab sticks, cream cheese, garlic, and the tablespoon of light mayonnaise until you have a cohesive spread. Any flavored cream cheese works here — something with herbs, vegetables, or mushrooms adds a little extra personality without extra effort.
If the mixture feels too stiff, loosen it with another small spoonful of mayonnaise until it is easy to spread.
Serve it
Toast slices of ciabatta (or whatever bread you have), pile on the spread, and add fresh or pickled vegetables on the side. Simple, fast, and just dressed-up enough to look like you meant it.
