The show doesn't have enough parent-child relationships.

Summary

  • Although Season 3 will focus on two fan-favorite relationship arcs, the audience wants another one to be explored in depth.
  • Francesca Bridgerton will play a more important role in the story now that she's an adult.
  • Frannie and Violet's relationship may be the most satisfying character arc on the show.

Any true Bridgerton fan knows that the hit Netflix series follows the narrative pattern established in Julia Quinn's novels of the same name, on which the show is based. Season 1 revolves around Daphne Bridgerton and her passionate romance with Duke Simon Basset. Season 2 focuses on the budding love between Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. However, Season 3 will skip Benedict and focus on Colin and Penelope Featherington's friendship-turned-love arc.

Still, Bridgerton's fans seem to be okay with this slight deviation from the canon. Moreover, given the cliffhanger ending of Season 2, in which Penelope was revealed to be Lady Whistledown and had a falling out with her best friend Eloise Bridgerton, the audience is very excited to have a season dedicated to Featherington. But it seems there's another relationship that viewers are just as interested in.

Season 3's Debutante

The titular family of Netflix's flagship show is large, to say the least. The late Viscount Edmund Bridgerton and his wife Violet have eight children, who are the focus of the show. While some of the Bridgertons have families of their own and some are still looking for love, others are too young to care. But that's not the case for Season 3's Francesca, now portrayed by Hannah Dodd, as the girl has grown into a prominent young lady ready for her foray into the marriage market.

Naturally, many viewers are expecting Francesca to play a more prominent role in the plot of the third installment. Now that she may have a love arc of her own, she's expected to bond with and learn from her older siblings. But in reality, it is Francesca's relationship with her mother, Violet, that needs to be explored.

There for Each Other

Unfortunately, Violet Bridgerton's role in the show is reduced to the devoted mother trope. After her husband's untimely death, Viscountess Bridgerton seemed to give up on her own life, giving all of her time, love, and effort to her children. Now that Francesca is an adult, her future must also be taken care of.

However, judging from the promo shots for Season 3, Francesca and Violet seem to be having the nicest time together, which means there's room for them to bond and become friends. Frannie could provide much-needed love and support to her mother and be the ray of light in Violet's life. Viscountess Bridgerton, in turn, would prepare her daughter for adult life and marriage.

Wouldn't this mother-daughter bond be the most satisfying relationship to follow in Season 3? Anyway, we'll have to see how the third installment approaches Francesca and Violet's arc when it premieres May 16.
