Forget OMITB, This New Crime Comedy Is Netflix's Hottest Hit Right Now

It is a comfort TV show for those who are tired of dark and gloomy detective stories.
The hype surrounding Adolescence may have overshadowed another new Netflix miniseries, Shonda Rhimes' The Residence.
The Residence should be compared not to the famous producer's other works, but to the most popular comedy detective of recent years – Only Murders in the Building.
The Residence has the same vibe as the Hulu show: a comfortable series with charismatic characters and excellent detective intrigue.
What Is The Residence About?
The White House is in chaos: the presidential administration is hosting a state dinner with representatives from Australia, Kylie Minogue is entertaining guests, and the staff is trying to avoid fighting and catch a glimpse of Hugh Jackman.
At that moment, the body of the head doorman, Mr. Wynter, is found in one of the rooms. The best detective in her field, Cordelia Cupp, arrives to investigate the case. While most believe that Wynter committed suicide, she is certain that it was murder.
The Residence Could Start a New Detective Franchise
The film crew unconditionally declares its love for the entire genre. Even the episodes are titled after certain detective novels or movies: The Fall of the House of Usher, Knives Out, Dial M for Murder.
Cordelia Cupp easily ranks with Holmes and Miss Marple. Netflix has the opportunity to create a new detective universe, where each season Cordelia will show her intelligence and irritate FBI agent Edwin Park, who has become the partner of the extraordinary woman.
The Pacing Is Sometimes Too Slow, but the Detective Intrigue Keeps the Plot Gripping
The Residence is a series with many storylines. The writers are not lazy in delving into the past of the characters, they spare no time to properly reveal their personalities. Sometimes it seems that the show is too long, and in the second half the pacing slows down.
But the slowness is easy to forgive: watching the puzzle gradually come together is a special pleasure. Every little detail, every casual comment, every small change in the interior – everything counts.
The writers deliberately distract the audience and Cordelia with a huge amount of information that is hard to keep track of. The viewer must be extremely attentive in order to solve the crime at the same time as the detective. But if you have a soft spot for detectives and are tired of dark stories, it's worth it.
