Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Star Matthew Lillard Teases Scream Reunion with Skeet Ulrich if the Movie Slays

Horror worlds collide as Five Nights at Freddy's 2 stages a Scream reunion, reuniting franchise veterans for a nostalgia-charged sequel primed to rattle multiplexes.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is stacking the deck with a very specific kind of chaos: Matthew Lillard is back as franchise supervillain William Afton, and his Scream buddy Skeet Ulrich is joining the party in a role they are very much not telling us about yet. The two popped up at Silver Scream Con to tease what they have cooking, and it sounds like fans are getting exactly what they want.
Lillard saw Ulrich's work this week and is already hyping it
At Silver Scream Con (hat tip to Bloody Disgusting), Lillard confirmed he watched Ulrich's performance recently and is all-in on the casting. He did not spoil the character, but he definitely nudged expectations upward.
"I saw his performance this week. They are gonna love it. He's playing a great character. If the movie's successful, hopefully he comes back."
Lillard also called the Five Nights community 'voracious' in the best way, and said he is happy to see Ulrich welcomed in. He credited creator Scott Cawthon with bringing Ulrich aboard, which is a nice little inside-baseball detail if you follow the franchise closely.
Ulrich is just happy to be back in the foxhole with Lillard
Ulrich kept things warm and grateful, basically saying he loves working with Lillard and that the experience on Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was no different. Plenty of mutual admiration, which tracks if you have watched these two do the convention circuit together.
Why Lillard is so locked in on Afton now
Last year, Lillard admitted he did not fully grasp what he was stepping into at first. He did not play the games himself, but his kids did, and his middle kid, Ace, was the one who told him to take the role because William Afton is a huge deal in this universe. Director Emma Tammi told him straight up that he would not have a ton to do in the first movie, but that Afton is the evil center of gravity long-term. Lillard has joked that he has been left out of more than a few sequels over the years, so the chance to actually dive deeper with a passionate fanbase clearly appealed. He even recalled Scott Cawthon telling him early on that, given time, people would start to picture Afton as Lillard by default. That is about as clear a mission statement as you get.
Release date and a little Scream sidebar
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 lands this December 5. Lillard is also returning for Scream 7; no word yet on whether Ulrich will be part of that one too.
