Who is in it
The series stars Eugene, Ji Hyun-woo, and Lee Min-young, leading a political potboiler that has kept its momentum without a lot of flash, which honestly suits the material.
Previously on First Lady (Episode 8)
Episode 8, which dropped on October 16, was all about leverage and counter-leverage. Soo-yeon moves in the shadows to stop a piece of legislation called the Special Act, hoping to box Min-cheol in politically. Seon-ho, with an assist from Hae-rin, breaks into Soo-yeon’s safe and walks out with a ledger and tapes that spell out corruption in black and white.
Here is the twist: once Min-cheol gets that evidence, he decides to push the Special Act through anyway, even though doing so will expose his affair. That is a bold play, or a self-own, depending on how you feel about long-shot gambits. Meanwhile, Hwa-jin tries to force Soo-yeon to release Woo-young, but Soo-yeon slips that trap, too. Hwa-jin is also gearing up to announce she is Min-cheol’s illegitimate daughter, which is the kind of personal grenade you only pull when you are past the point of no return. The kicker? Soo-yeon discovers her safe has been cleaned out, which means her secrets are now in someone else’s hands.
What Episode 9 is setting up
Min-cheol has to eat the consequences of greenlighting the Special Act. The law going through, plus the fallout from his affair, puts his career and alliances in a very wobbly place. With the final act beginning, expect loyalties to turn into bargaining chips and every private mistake to become public currency.
Place your bets: Team Soo-yeon or Team Min-cheol?
