Thought Fast & Furious was easing off the throttle? Not yet. Vin Diesel says the next chapter, titled 'Fast Forever', is locked for theaters on March 17, 2028.
How we found out
Diesel broke the news on Instagram with a throwback photo of him and the late Paul Walker from the first movie. He paired it with a little mission-statement energy and the new title reveal.
"No one said the road would be easy... but it is ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy... And a legacy... lasts forever."
Who is back so far
Details are thin, but the returning roster is already stacked:
- Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs
- Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw
- Jason Momoa as Dante Reyes
- Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto
- Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz
Expect more familiar faces from Dom Toretto's crew as this comes together.
Brian O'Connor is back (yes, really)
Over the summer at FuelFest, Diesel said Brian O'Connor will return to the franchise. For context: after Paul Walker passed away during production on 'Furious 7', his brothers Cody and Caleb stepped in to help finish the film — Cody served as a body double while Caleb assisted with facial capture. No word yet on whether 'Fast Forever' plans the same approach or something new.
So where does the story pick up?
When 'Fast Forever' arrives, it will have been five years since 'Fast X' (which hit in 2023). That last movie hauled in $704 million worldwide, so yes, people are still showing up for the wild stunts and the unshakable family mantra.
'Fast X' ended on a cliffhanger that was, frankly, outrageous even by this series' standards, so the next film has some cleanup to do. One practical wrinkle: Dominic's son Brian, played by Leo Abelo Perry, is going to look older by 2028. Do they pick up right where things left off, or skip ahead with a time jump and keep Perry in the role? That answer probably lands once casting details roll out and production ramps up.
The long road ahead
For now, we have a title, a date, and a handful of returning heavy hitters. Whether 'Fast Forever' is the last lap or just the next pit stop is still up in the air, but the franchise clearly has one more big swing in it.
