It looks like the beloved character may die in this season's finale.

Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise has been a huge hit for NBC for more than a decade, allowing fans to peer into the personal and professional lives of firefighters, doctors, and cops. And while Chicago Fire is by far the most popular series in the franchise, Chicago P.D. is not far behind, skillfully mixing compelling weekly cases with relatable romantic issues for its characters.

However, it looks like police officer Adam Ruzek, who is considered to be the best-written character on the show, may be leaving this season as his life is hanging by a thin thread.

In Season 10, Adam finally saw some good happen in his life when he reconnected with Kim Burgess, his ex-fiancée, with whom he is still very much in love. Fans were happy to see the strong-willed cop acting much more vulnerable with Kim, hoping that the two will try to get married again.

However, one thing is interfering with their plans: Adam is currently working undercover, trying to stop a domestic terrorist group, and it looks like the leaders of the cell are onto him.

It's quite common for prime-time police procedurals to use the death of a beloved character as a way to end the season, and Chicago P.D. fans are really worried that Adam might become a sacrificial lamb for the show's writers. Adam is clearly in great danger in the upcoming episodes, as the domestic terrorists he found himself working with can kill him without even blinking an eye.

However, nothing is confirmed yet, as no news about Patrick Flueger leaving the show after Season 10 has been made public, which proves that either the whole theory is a total bust, or the producers are keeping it a secret to make Adam's death even more surprising.

While Adam dying during an undercover mission without even being able to say goodbye to Kim is certainly a compelling way to end the season, fans are hoping the writers won't do that, arguing that Adam is by far the most interesting character on Chicago P.D., and without him, the show simply isn't worth watching.

Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 20 will arrive on NBC on May 10, 2023.
