If Eiichiro Oda agrees, this could be one of the best seasons in television history!

Netflix's One Piece has become a global phenomenon, as the show has proven to be not only a successful adaptation of the manga, but also one of the most-watched shows in general. One Piece took the top spot for concurrent views on Netflix in 84 countries, breaking the record set by Wednesday and Stranger Things.

Now we are even more excited: Netflix has announced Season 2. Fans of the pirate franchise familiar with the source material know that more intriguing adventures and new friends await the Straw Hat Pirates. Plus, it looks like the fandom's biggest dream may come true — one of the characters may be played by Hollywood legend Jamie Lee Curtis.

Dreams come true

Even though the Japanese have created genres aimed at specific gender and age demographic categories, anime doesn't have to be exclusive. After all, what's to stop an adult from enjoying a fun story aimed at teens?

In fact, 64-year-old Jamie Lee Curtis has repeatedly declared her love for One Piece, even before the live-action adaptation began filming.

And so, for over a year now, fans have been dreaming and hoping that the actress would still be cast in the project, as she would make a great Dr. Kureha (who we'll talk about later). Now our prayers have been answered: Curtis is ready to jump into the project as soon as the labor disputes in Hollywood are settled.

Almost immediately after the post was published, One Piece showrunner Matt Owens himself commented on it.

'Mommy dearest, that's why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work, let's talk!' he replied. If this was the original intention of the show's creators, it looks like this option was approved by Oda himself, and we can only thank him for how much he and other producers feel their fans!

Who's Dr. Kureha?

Given the pacing of the series, the second season will at some point pick up the events of the Drum Island arc, which will see our favorite pirates travel to the island of the same name and meet new friends and foes. Among the former will be Dr. Kureha, an elderly woman who heads Isshi-100, a collective of the most talented and experienced doctors on all of Drum Island.

She is also the mother figure to Chopper, a raindeer who will become Luffy's best friend and who will probably prove to be as much of a source of merchandising profits as Disney's Baby Yoda.
