Fan Theory Predicts a Grim Future for Charmaine in Virgin River Season 6
Season 5's plot proves the theory.
Virgin River has released the first ten episodes of Season 5, which has divided the show's enormous fan base. Some were thrilled to reconnect with beloved characters Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan, as well as other Virgin River residents, while others were disappointed, feeling that the writing for this season was disjointed and underwhelming.
The storyline that particularly disheartened fans unfolded in Episode 5, Trial by Fire. It depicted a pregnant Mel caring for patients during a wildfire outbreak and suddenly discovering that she was bleeding.
In a heart-wrenching scene, Mel hurried to an examination room to check the baby's heartbeat and couldn't detect one, realising she had suffered another miscarriage. As revealing and dramatic as this storyline was, it also infuriated fans who came to Virgin River for light-hearted romance and happy endings.
What Mel's miscarriage means for Charmaine
Now, fans speculate that with the miscarriage storyline, the writers are preparing a grim future for another Virgin River character, Charmaine.
What does Jack's ex have to do with all this, you might ask? Well, a theory that's been circulating among fans for some time now suggests that the Virgin River writers might kill off Charmaine in the upcoming season, allowing Jack and Mel to adopt her twin boys and start a family.
Sounds harsh, doesn't it? But the theory actually makes a lot of sense.
Charmaine's Death Would Make Sense Story-Wise
Charmaine's primary storyline revolves around her pregnancy. Once the babies are born, there's little left for her to do other than leave Virgin River, both the town and the show. However, if Charmaine dies and the babies are orphaned, numerous compelling storylines could be developed.
Charmaine has been pregnant since Season 1, and nearly every scene with her revolves around the unborn twins. At first, we thought they were Jack's, then there was the whole 'who is the actual father' issue, and now Calvin has returned from the dead and suggested that he might be the father.
Given how fearful Charmaine appeared during their interaction and how little we know, Calvin's situation will undoubtedly continue in future seasons. And since he is dangerous, Charmaine's life is certainly at risk if she doesn't comply with his demands. Moreover, she could die during childbirth.
The show has already advanced to Christmas, so it's highly likely that we will finally see Charmaine give birth soon, possibly even in the holiday specials coming to Netflix on 30 November.
But will the fan theory become a reality? That remains to be seen.
