Fan-Favorite HBO Max Series Rage Renewed for Season 2 — With an All-New Cast
HBO Max has renewed Rage, the Spanish black comedy that shot to become Spain’s most-watched series on the platform behind House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, for a second season—this time with a new cast.
HBO Max is keeping the Spanish black comedy Rage going. The streamer just ordered Season 2, about five months after the show first dropped and blew up in Spain. It became HBO Max's most-watched series there, trailing only the juggernauts House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Not bad company.
So, what is Rage again?
Season 1 followed five women caught in overlapping, high-pressure messes — think extortion, manipulation, and all the wonderfully awful human behavior that makes for great dark comedy. Their choices ricochet through each other’s lives until everyone hits a collective breaking point. It is sharp, messy, and very aware of the current social moment, with humor that cuts as much as it relieves.
The show is created and directed by Félix Sabroso and produced by Producciones Mandarina. The first-season cast was stacked: Carmen Machi, Candela Peña, Cecilia Roth, Nathalie Poza, and Pilar Castro. They were so good they snagged a special jury prize at the European Rose d'Or Awards for their lead performances.
Season 2: the plan
- New faces up front: Season 2 will be led by a fresh ensemble cast.
- But not a hard reboot: some Season 1 favorites are expected to return. Who, exactly? Still under wraps.
- Timeline: HBO Max says the next installment is aiming for 2026.
- Why the shakeup: Sabroso wants to keep the show's voice intact while pushing new ideas — a bold move that fits the series' interconnected, chaos-spreads-fast vibe.
- Performance context: Rage surged to the top in Spain on HBO Max, sitting just behind House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.
- Creative team: created and directed by Félix Sabroso; produced by Producciones Mandarina.
- Executive producers: for HBO Max, Alberto Carullo, Antonio Trashorras, David Ocaña, and José María Caro; for Producciones Mandarina, Santi Botello and Tedy Villalba Jr.
- Season 1 cast refresher: Carmen Machi, Candela Peña, Cecilia Roth, Nathalie Poza, Pilar Castro.
- Awards note: the Season 1 leads won a special jury prize at the European Rose d'Or Awards.
Creator on the new direction
'I think Rage has a very authentic perspective, and it was riskier and more honest to offer new ideas so that the story could continue with the same strength. Even so, I do not want to lose some of the most beloved characters from the first season,' Sabroso said.
Translation: expect fresh faces, but do not count out a few returning MVPs. Swapping ensembles between seasons can be risky, but given how the show's stories ripple across characters, it makes sense. And with a 2026 target, there is time to get the balance right.
