The fan-favorite procedural won't release on Fridays this fall.

The fall of 2023 will be a real disaster for the media industry, as most scheduled shows have been postponed or canceled altogether. Due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the fate of many popular projects remains uncertain. The writers' and actors' strikes may go on for months until the unions' demands are met by production studios.

From now on, broadcast networks and streaming services will have to rely on either unscripted reality shows or foreign series.

Amid all the ongoing buzz, one major piece of news may have gone unnoticed, and it will surely disappoint those who have been eagerly anticipating Friday night releases on CBS. Recently, it has been revealed that the latest victim of forced postponements is Blue Bloods, the cop drama that has been aired primarily in the fall release window for the past 13 years.

Prior to the SAG strike announcement on July 14, fans of the Reagan family were eagerly anticipating the new season. Even before the end of Season 13, CBS announced that the series would be renewed, and it was reported that many of the cast members agreed to take a significant pay cut to keep the beloved project going.

Filming was supposed to begin this July, but even that seemed doubtful, with several sources saying that the script for the upcoming season was not ready because the writers were already picketing.

And now, CBS has released a new schedule for the 2023–2024 fall season, which reveals that almost all of the fall series, with the exception of the reality shows, have been delayed — including Blue Bloods.

It's pretty hard to speculate on when Season 14 will go into production. It all depends on how long the writers' and actors' strikes last. If they end by fall, it's conceivable that Blue Bloods could still be released in early 2024. However, if the strikes continue in October and beyond, it's possible that the new season won't be released until the fall of next year.

In the meantime, while major industry players picket for better working conditions and pay and frustrated fans continue to keep a close eye on what's going on, CBS is offering some modest consolation. On Fridays at 10 pm, the network will be airing 'classic' episodes from previous seasons of Blue Bloods.
