Excited about Deadpool 3? Don't Be – You Will Never Watch This Movie, Director Says
Shawn Levy has shed some light on the highly anticipated Marvel movie.
Summary
- Shawn Levy, the director and writer of Deadpool & Wolverine, just made a surprising statement regarding his new movie.
- He thinks it's very different from the first two installments.
- The filmmaker has worked with the stars of the upcoming movie before.
Although 2023 seems to have buried the Marvel Cinematic Universe – shout out to the epic box office failure of The Marvels – the franchise is still afloat. What's even more interesting in this context is that Marvel isn't over yet, thanks to the single upcoming production, Deadpool & Wolverine, which is set to hit theaters in July.
Deadpool has always been one of Marvel's most popular superheroes, as well as Wolverine and the entire X-Men franchise. Now that the two worlds are about to collide, fans cannot contain their excitement for the third Deadpool movie, which could revitalize Marvel Studios as a whole. However, there's one very important detail to keep in mind. The new movie won't just be Deadpool 3 like the first two installments of the series.
Shawn Levy on Deadpool & Wolverine
Unlike many popular movie franchises, Deadpool has no loyalty to the director, as each film in the series has been directed by a different filmmaker. The first installment was brought to life by Tim Miller (Terminator: Dark Fate). Deadpool 2 was directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, The Fall Guy).
The upcoming Deadpool movie is directed by Shawn Levy, who has created many popular comedies over the years, including Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, and the Night at the Museum film series. And when it comes to the Marvel movie, the director feels very strongly about how it should be perceived by audiences.
'It's the third Deadpool movie, but it's not Deadpool 3. It's a different thing that's very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it's not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure,' Shawn Levy said in an interview recently.
Shawn Levy's Vision
According to the filmmaker, it's a great privilege to work with both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on the same movie. Not only is it exciting because of their fame, but Deadpool and Wolverine are the actors' most iconic roles. Naturally, the director, who also wrote the script for the upcoming movie, has tried to flesh out both characters and make the story about both of them and for the audience to enjoy.
Interestingly enough, Deadpool & Wolverine won't be the first time that Shawn Levy has worked with either Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman. The latter starred in the director's 2011 Real Steel, while the former starred in two of Levy's productions – Free Guy and The Adam Project. So it goes without saying that it should be a great viewing experience to see the combined work of the three talents when it premieres on July 26.
