Chainsaws primed: Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn has wrapped after a brisk three-month shoot, setting the latest Evil Dead entry on course for a 2026 release.

Good news for the deadites among us: the next Evil Dead just hit a big milestone. Sebastien Vanicek says his movie, now titled 'Evil Dead Burn', finished shooting after kicking off production in July. The franchise brain trust has been promising regular entries, and, for once, they seem to be sticking to the plan.

Where this is headed

Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema are lining the film up for a theatrical run on July 24, 2026. New Line and Sony are splitting the financing. Distribution-wise, Sony handles international, Canal Plus is set to distribute in the UK, and Metropolitan has France.

Who is making this thing

Vanicek, who broke out with the French creature feature 'Vermin' (aka 'Infested'), is writing and directing from a script he co-wrote with Florent Bernard. He has said he has full creative control on this one and wants to put a distinctly French spin on the Necronomicon chaos. Plot details are locked down, but the cast is not: 'Dune: Part Two' standout Souheila Yacoub leads the film. She is a Swiss former rhythmic gymnast who won the Miss Suisse Romande pageant before pivoting to acting. Joining her are Hunter Doohan ('Your Honor'), Luciane Buchanan ('The Night Agent'), and Tandi Wright ('Pearl').

"I have watched all the other Evil Deads, I made my way through them, and when I read the script, it is unlike any of the Evil Deads. I guess the director has his own spin on it, and I was very excited. I really enjoyed the script. The actors are incredible, but I will leave it there."

How this fits the Evil Dead playbook

Before 'Evil Dead Rise' hit in 2023, rights holders Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert said they wanted to crank out a new sequel or spin-off every two to three years. Hiring Vanicek last year fits their recent strategy: hand the chainsaw to a buzzy filmmaker fresh off a debut. Raimi launched it all with 'The Evil Dead' and kept Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) front and center through 'Evil Dead II', 'Army of Darkness', and the first episode of 'Ash vs Evil Dead'. Then the series started experimenting with new voices and no Ash: Fede Alvarez took the reins for the 2013 'Evil Dead' after impressing with a short, and Lee Cronin followed with 2023's 'Evil Dead Rise' after his 2019 debut 'The Hole in the Ground'. Vanicek, coming in hot off 'Vermin', is very much in that lane.

The bigger franchise picture

This is not the only branch on the tree. Two months after Vanicek signed on, the team also tapped Francis Galluppi (who just debuted with the crime thriller 'The Last Stop in Yuma County') to write and direct his own Evil Dead movie. That one has been quiet since. There is also an animated follow-up to 'Ash vs Evil Dead' in development.
