It seems that even some of the main people behind the scenes support the fans' hatred of this silly plot twist.

The CBS series The Big Bang Theory became one of the most iconic sitcoms of its era, proving once and for all that even the strangest characters can be loved and relatable.

Odd as they were, the four scientists at the center of the series' plot gained incredible popularity with viewers, and the writers did an excellent job of fleshing out their personalities and getting fans to eagerly follow their development as characters.

And of course, there were several other important characters in the series, including Penny, Sheldon and Leonard's seemingly ordinary neighbor.

Penny and Leonard were the most popular romantic pairing on the show, and the writers kept fans guessing about their future for several seasons, creating inspiring and hilarious storylines in the process. However, once Penny and Leonard got married, they became completely uninteresting and shallow and got somewhat overshadowed by the other characters.

That's why the writers decided to boost their relationship in the final season by getting Penny pregnant and making her happy about it, despite her saying throughout the series that she hated the idea of becoming a mother.

Many viewers immediately condemned the decision, claiming that the writers totally ruined Penny as a character, as they forced her to betray everything she used to believe in.

And it seems that series' producer Steve Holland agrees with fans, admitting in Jessica Radloff's book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of The Epic Hit Series that he also had some problems with the final twist.

"I wish we had earned it a little bit more, getting to that reveal. Some people called us out, and maybe rightly so, that Penny made the decision not to have kids and was OK with it, and then ended up pregnant… We talked about ways to get her to that moment that didn't feel quite so abrupt. I wish we had Penny take one more step before we got to the finale," Holland said.

While fans are still angry at the show's creators for treating Penny the way they did, many support Holland for his decision to admit his mistakes. Overall, most people agree that, with the exception of the final episodes, Penny has been a great character thanks to Holland and the writers' work.
