Casino Royale alum Eva Green joins Wednesday season 3 as Aunt Ophelia, a troubled, threatening psychic poised to shake up the show. Expect the stakes—and the weirdness—to spike.

Netflix did not wait around. Before Wednesday season 2 even hit the platform, the streamer had already ordered season 3. Now the next big piece clicks into place: according to Deadline, Eva Green has signed on to play Aunt Ophelia in season 3.

Who is Aunt Ophelia this time?

Short version: not the bubbly foil from the 60s sitcom. On that classic show, Ophelia was Morticia's sunny, blonde opposite. Wednesday's version has been teased as something much darker: a troubled psychic who was committed to a psychiatric hospital. The season 2 finale took that tease and slammed it into a wall—literally under one. We saw Ophelia imprisoned in a cell beneath Morticia's house, having scrawled a message in her own blood.

'Wednesday Must Die'

So yes, the runway to her season 3 entrance is very much lit.

Quick catch-up on the rollout

Season 2 just wrapped its staggered launch on Netflix, with the first batch of episodes arriving in August and the rest following in September. Again, season 3 was greenlit before any of that rolled out.

Why Eva Green makes sense

Green is best known for breaking James Bond's heart in Casino Royale, but the more relevant connection here is Tim Burton. She has teamed with him three times already: Dark Shadows, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and Dumbo. Given how Wednesday has framed Ophelia as a volatile, possibly menacing presence, Green sliding into the role feels like a glove made of black velvet and bad intentions.

What Wednesday is doing as a series

The show is built as a dark-comic, supernatural coming-of-age story. We follow Wednesday Addams during her years at Nevermore Academy as she tries to get a handle on her psychic abilities, stop a monster terrorizing the nearby town, and dig into a decades-old mystery tied to her parents—all while navigating the joys and disasters of new friendships and rivalries. Season 2 kept the mayhem coming: more enemies, more family drama, more deadpan dagger one-liners, and a fresh supernatural puzzle to crack.

Wednesday comes from Millar Gough Ink, Tim Burton Productions, Toluca Pictures, and MGM Television. With Green on board as Ophelia after that blood-on-the-wall finale tease, season 3 just got a lot more interesting. Snap if you agree.
