Netflix has locked its first assassin: Toby Wallace will lead the live-action Assassin’s Creed series, the streamer’s adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit franchise, coming together fast just four months after the official series order.

Netflix finally put a face to its Assassin's Creed series. After months of radio silence since the official series order, the streamer has tapped a lead. And yeah, they went interesting.

Toby Wallace, who you might know from The Bikeriders and Babyteeth, has signed on as a series regular and, per Deadline, one of the main leads in what is being pitched as a high-octane action thriller. It is also a bit of a homecoming: Wallace last worked with Netflix six years ago on The Society. Before he slips on any hooded robes, though, he is set to show up in HBO's Euphoria Season 3.

The story is centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions - one set on determining mankind's future through control and manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will. The series will follow its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity's destiny.

In plain terms: expect the classic Assassin's Creed push-pull (think Assassins vs. Templars), hopping through major moments in history while arguing about whether people should be steered or left alone.

What we know right now

  • Cast: Toby Wallace is the first announced cast member, in a lead, series-regular role.
  • Timing: Netflix ordered the live-action show four months ago; Wallace's casting is the first real movement since. Production is expected to start in 2026.
  • Where: Filming is reportedly planned for Italy.
  • Creative team: Showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener are executive producing, alongside Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones from Ubisoft Film & Television, plus Matt O'Toole.
  • Franchise scale: Assassin's Creed launched in 2007 and has sold over 230 million game units worldwide.
  • Previous adaptation: This is not the first live-action swing. Sony released a 2016 film led by Michael Fassbender.

No word yet on which era or which historical figures this version will lock onto, or exactly who Wallace is playing. Given the 2026 start and the Italy setting, do not expect this one any time soon, but with a lead now in place, the rest of the pieces should start clicking in.
