Emily in Paris Season 4 Finale: Has Rome Stolen Paris's Crown?
Emily in Paris detonates its boldest twist yet, with a Season 4 finale that flips Emily Cooper’s Paris playbook and resets every romance, friendship, and career move. Netflix’s glossy escapade doesn’t tie a bow—it drops a bombshell that will have fans rethinking every cobblestone step and croissant since day one.
Emily in Paris just did the thing nobody thought it would: it actually moved Emily. Not for a weekend, not for a brand campaign — for real. After a two-part Season 4 (Part 1 on August 15, 2024; Part 2 on September 12, 2024), Netflix dropped a finale that basically rebrands the show in the last minutes. Before Season 5 hits on December 18, 2025, here’s the play-by-play of how Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) ended up swapping the Seine for the Tiber — and why that doesn’t mean Paris is out of the picture.
How we got from the Alps to a Roman apartment
Season 4 kicks off with the latest and loudest Gabriel red flag. During a Christmas ski trip, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) ditches Emily at the top of a slope to go chase Camille (Camille Razat). As red flags go, that one had a siren attached. Emily finally breaks it off for good.
Cue Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), an Italian heir to the Umberto Muratori cashmere empire, who literally swoops in on that same mountain. He’s charming, he’s not a walking complication, and he introduces Emily to his family’s whole quiet-luxury vibe in the coastal town of Solitano. The Rome detour with Marcello turns into something bigger: a version of life that isn’t built for Instagram, which, for Emily, is saying something.
The career rocket: Emily opens Agence Grateau Rome
On the work side, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) gets a win: Emily lands an Italian espresso client and helps lock a six-month deal with the Muratori fashion house. That’s enough for Sylvie to hand Emily the keys to a brand-new Rome office and name her head of Agence Grateau Rome.
Then the finale hits the gas. Emily moves into a gorgeous Roman apartment. She changes her handle to @EmilyInRome. Marcello picks her up on a Vespa. And back in Paris, Gabriel asks Mindy (Ashley Park) for Emily’s Rome address — because of course he’s now realized what he lost. Yes, the love triangle is back, just with a different skyline.
Season 4 flashpoints

- Meet-cute 2.0: Marcello rescues Emily, and a low-drama romance actually takes root.
- Sylvie crashes the vacation: Business rolls into Emily’s personal trip, as usual.
- Solitano immersion: Emily gets the Muratori family’s quiet-luxury crash course.
- The big deal: Agence Grateau secures a 6-month Muratori contract; Emily nabs an Italian espresso client.
- The promotion: Emily is named head of Agence Grateau’s new Rome office.
- Endgame twist: Emily relocates to Rome and becomes @EmilyInRome; Gabriel heads to find her.
What Darren Star is actually saying about the move
Darren Star’s not subtle about wanting to widen the show’s footprint beyond croissants and bistros. He told Tudum that Rome is an expansion, not a relocation:
'Emily's going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn't mean she's not going to be in Paris.'
He also admitted the Emily/Gabriel fantasy needed a reality check:
'I think there’s something about the relationship between Gabriel and Emily that was a little surface-y... And I think this year, it gets a little bit more real... taking off the rose-colored glasses.'
The rest of the ensemble isn’t idling
Mindy (Ashley Park) gets dealt a nasty blow when Nicolas (Paul Forman) kneecaps her Eurovision shot, so she decamps to Rome and busks an original song — which promptly goes viral and earns her an invite back to Chinese Popstar!. Meanwhile, Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) delivers the rare ex-with-wisdom pep talk that nudges Gabriel toward Rome in the finale.
Back at the office, Sylvie’s past is stirring up fresh complications, and new hire Genevieve (Thalia Besson) adds friction to Agence Grateau’s already spicy workplace politics. Over in the art world, Camille makes a big personal call: she’s moving forward with becoming a single mom via adoption.
So are we getting Emily in Rome now?
Not officially. Netflix renewed the show in September 2024, and Season 5 drops December 18, 2025. Expect a bi-city setup: Emily runs the Rome office, but Paris remains home base for a lot of the action. Translation: more scooters and spritzes, but you’re not losing the Eiffel Tower.
Where this is clearly headed
Gabriel pursuing Emily to Rome sets up the next version of the triangle: Gabriel vs. Marcello, with Emily now in a position of actual leverage (personally and professionally). Mindy’s career is suddenly on the upswing, Sylvie’s juggling past and present, and Agence Grateau has to prove it can scale without losing its edge. It’s a big swing for a show that started with office politics and pain au chocolat, and honestly, the shake-up was overdue.
