Summary

- Eloise has many flaws that fans overlook because of her personality.
With Season 3 of Bridgerton underway, fans of the hit Netflix romance drama are eager to see how Colin and Penelope's story unfolds. But even though Polin are the romantic leads of the third installment, their relationship isn't the only one viewers are excited to follow.
Bridgerton's second season ended on a low note when Eloise found out that her best friend Penelope Featherington was actually the person behind the notorious gossip columnist, Lady Whistledown. As a result, the two characters had a major falling-out, with Eloise accusing Pen of ruining people's lives and wasting her talent on an unseemly hobby. Penelope, in turn, accused her friend of arrogance and snobbery. And as hurtful as Miss Featherington's words were, she was absolutely right about Eloise.
The Sin of Pride
Eloise may be a fun and unconventional character, as she constantly defies the social norms of the Regency era. Her refusal to give in and follow the rules and be like everyone else is inspiring. But they are also very misleading because they hide Eloise's flaws, which were brilliantly pointed out by Penelope during their standoff.
'You have all these great ambitions, these great plans, but I am the one who actually did something great and you cannot stand it, can you?' Penelope said to Eloise after hearing her criticism of Lady Whistledown in Season 2 Episode 8.
Indeed, Eloise does nothing of her own, despite her constant ranting about the unfairness of society and the imbalance of power between men and women. More importantly, the second Bridgerton daughter has her family's influence and wealth to fall back on, but she still doesn't apply herself to anything in life, simply walking around criticizing everything and everyone around her for how vile and corrupt they are to follow the norm. Yet she felt it was okay to berate her best friend for being successful at something.
A Cry Baby
Ironically, Eloise prides herself on being a mature and sophisticated person, while she is the complete opposite. All she does is complain about her miserable lot as a woman and envy her brothers for their supposed freedom, whereas Anthony's entire arc has been about him choosing between his happiness and his duty. And she does literally nothing to change the situation in the slightest.
Ultimately, Eloise is just arrogant and self-centered and thinks she's better than every other girl around her and can't stand it when those girls turn out to be more successful in love or in their businesses. And that is why she needed to hear those hurtful words from Penelope, a person whose opinion mattered to her.
Hopefully, Penelope and Eloise will make up quickly in season 3 of Bridgerton when it premieres on May 16.
