Elijah Wood has read the script for The Hunt for Gollum, the next chapter in the Lord of the Rings saga — but for now he’s keeping the details under wraps.

Middle-earth is spinning back up, and yes, people are already trying to figure out who is in and who is keeping their mouths shut. Case in point: Elijah Wood just did the polite tap dance around Andy Serkis' The Hunt for Gollum, and in the process basically confirmed he has seen more than the rest of us.

At DesertCon, someone asked Wood about the new movie. He did not take the bait on spoilers, but he did flash the receipts.

'Well, I can't say anything about that. I know a great deal about it. I've read it. It's really good.'

Translation: he is not going to tell you if Frodo pops up, but he has the script and likes what he read. Smart deflection, and a solid tease.

Wood then did what you do when you are NDA'd into silence: hype the team. He talked about the 'creative band' getting back together for The Hunt for Gollum, calling out the core brain trust behind The Lord of the Rings. That means Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens are heavily involved again. He also said the same production designers are on board and the film will shoot in New Zealand. In other words, they are plugging back into the old machine with the people who built it, which is exactly what fans want to hear.

He also promised there are some fun bits in there that will make people happy. Cryptic, sure, but better than the usual 'no comment' blank stare.

  • Elijah Wood says he has read the script for The Hunt for Gollum and thinks it is really good.
  • He name-checked the returning creative leadership: Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens are deeply involved.
  • Expect continuity behind the camera, with the same production designers and a New Zealand shoot.
  • He teased 'fun bits' for fans but did not touch his own potential involvement.
  • Release update: The Hunt for Gollum moved from December 2026 to December 2027.
  • Worth noting: Wood has said before that he would love to return to Middle-earth, so the enthusiasm here tracks.

None of this settles who shows up on screen, but if you are into the inside baseball of how these movies get made, the big takeaway is that the old LOTR infrastructure is back in action. If you are just here to know when you can buy a ticket, circle December 2027 and start practicing your Gollum voice again. Or do not. Your call.
