EJAE shuts down AI rumors: every KPop Demon Hunters track was written by hand—no algorithms, just human craft.

KPop Demon Hunters keeps swallowing the internet whole, and the soundtrack won’t get off the charts. But with success comes the dumb question of the week: are the vocals AI? Short answer from the people actually making the music: no, and they’re tired of saying it.

No, the vocals are not AI

In a new interview with Wired, EJAE — the singing voice for Huntr/x’s Rumi and one of the film’s key songwriters — shot down the AI talk and explained why the assumption stings.

"No. One thing I find so interesting, so fascinating, is people are like, 'Oh, it's an animated character, and it's a girl group and they're singing, it's AI. Like, why is this AI girl group becoming number one?' and stuff like that, right? It's hurtful, because we work so hard. I'm a singer, I'm not an AI."

To be crystal clear about her role: EJAE helped write multiple tracks on the soundtrack and provided the vocals for Rumi. She is a credited writer on four of the big ones: How It’s Done, Golden, Your Idol, and What It Sounds Like.

The cast is backing her up. After a tweet went viral comparing Huntr/x to AI, Rei Ami — who performs Zoey’s singing voice — responded with all-caps energy that left zero room for confusion.

"EJAE, AUDREY NUNA AND I ARE NOT AI — ARE U BITCHES DUMB?!"

  • EJAE: singing voice for Huntr/x’s Rumi; co-writer on How It’s Done, Golden, Your Idol, and What It Sounds Like
  • Rei Ami: singing voice for Zoey (and very publicly not a robot)
  • Audrey Nuna: singing voice for Mira

Meanwhile, the movie just keeps getting bigger

KPop Demon Hunters is still parked in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 and has racked up over 400 million views and counting. At this point, it’s Netflix’s biggest release ever. And it does not look done: an animated short and a full-on sequel are both being teed up. What you probably won’t see anytime soon is a live-action remake, so don’t wait around for that.

The film is streaming on Netflix right now. If you need more to queue up after, start with the best Netflix movies and what’s new on Netflix in November 2025.
