The actress has backed out after being dropped as the host of The National Book Awards.

Hollywood seems to have come to a near standstill as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are in full swing. Many beloved shows – dramas, comedies, and late-night programs – have been put on hold. However, some shows keep going despite the unions being on strike, which is naturally stirring up controversy.

The Drew Barrymore Show, hosted by the eponymous star, made its TV debut in 2020. Since then, it has aired almost six hundred episodes over the course of three seasons. Originally scheduled for this fall, season 4 was postponed due to the writers' strike. However, last week, Drew Barrymore announced she would be going ahead with her talk show. Now, after facing substantial backlash, the actress has walked back her decision.

Barrymore Goes on Instagram to Make a Public Apology

Barrymore's show is covered by WGA, meaning that if it were to go on air, the writers involved would be breaking the union rules. After experiencing the anger of fans and colleagues first-hand, the beloved Charlie's Angels actress posted an announcement on her Instagram, saying that she had reconsidered her decision to run her talk show despite the ongoing strike, having heeded the public.

In a remorseful message, Drew apologized to 'anyone she had hurt' and confirmed that her talk show would not return until after the WGA strike was over and all issues in the industry were resolved.

Mixed Audience Response

While Barrymore was quick to act to quell the controversy surrounding the fourth season of her show, she still managed to alienate some fans who very much doubt if she was being sincere in her apologies. Nonetheless, most people approve of the actress's final decision and consider her actions sufficient atonement for the initial blunder.

'I give her the benefit of the doubt. She reversed course and did the right thing,' a kind Redditor wrote. 'We should be praising her decision after listening to everyone. We ultimately want people to do good; it's ok if they make some mistakes so long as they get there.'

Hopefully, Drew Barrymore won't face repercussions from the other side this time around.
