Don't Get Attached! 5 Movies with 100% Character Mortality Rate
These are not all horror films.
Usually, we like stories more when we can relate to some of the characters and get attached to them. But in some stories, this tactic seems rather unwise, as no character is safe from being killed off.
Here are five movies where every main character (if not everyone) inevitably dies.
This Is the End (2013, 6.6 on IMDb)
Available on: Amazon Prime Video
Set in Los Angeles, Seth Rogen's apocalyptic comedy-horror follows fictionalized versions of various celebrities as the city is hit by a devastating earthquake. Everything seems to be falling apart as the ground cracks open and the desperate characters try to get to safety. However, in the time of Armageddon, every attempt will be in vain and no one will be spared the tragic and terrible death.
The Grey (2011, 6.7 on IMDb)
Available on: Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video
Adapted from Ian MacKenzie's short story Ghost Walker, the film centers on a group of plane crash survivors stranded in the Alaskan tundra in the dead of winter. To add insult to injury, a pack of ravenous wolves is stalking them. So, the characters have to do everything to protect themselves. But the battle between man and beast will have no victor.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012, 6.7 on IMDb)
Available on: Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video
Starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, this apocalyptic rom com tells the story of Dodge, a man who, in anticipation of the inevitable end of the world, sets out to find his high school sweetheart Olivia. Along the way, he meets Penny, and they travel together, witnessing the downfall of a civilization no longer bound by morality, and grow closer. And just when you expect a happy ending, the world ends.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011, 7.0 on IMDb)
Available on: Hulu, Amazon Prime Video
This sci-fi/fantasy comedy-horror is absolutely ridiculous, but it's also merciless to its characters. The movie follows a group of college students who go on a vacation to a cabin in the woods. As it turns out, the cabin is an experimental facility and they are guinea pigs to be slaughtered to appease ancient deities. As the characters struggle to survive, everything goes wrong and divine punishment becomes imminent.
The Hateful Eight (2015, 7.8 on IMDb)
Available on: Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix
Set in the post-Civil War United States, Quentin Tarantino's hit Western centers on eight strangers with questionable reputations who are trapped in the same stagecoach stop during a merciless blizzard. Suspicious of each other and with much to hide, they are reluctant to trust one another. But as the characters learn more about their unwilling companions, trust becomes impossible and the only way to play the game is with the help of a gun, leading to a very grim end for everyone.
