Does Katy Perry Really Plan to Quit American Idol Over Fan Backlash?
It looks like the celebrity judge may be leaving the show sooner than expected.
Even though American Idol has seen better years, the recently concluded Season 21 proved that the series is back on the right track, changing its focus to promote the work of talented young artists instead of its stellar judges. Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan showed themselves as talented coaches and adorable personalities once again, but it looks like Katy Perry managed to upset the audience quite a bit this season, as many people accused her of bullying the contestants.
The backlash started during the audition process when Perry mom-shamed one of the singers for having three children in her mid-twenties. Then, during the season itself, the judge made a number of insensitive comments, prompting viewers to urge ABC to fire her before the upcoming Season 22.
Now, it seems that the fans are getting their wish, as Perry's future on American Idol is currently in question.
According to various sources, Katy Perry may be looking for a way out of American Idol, and that's not just because of the growing backlash from viewers. Apparently, the singer is also concerned about how much pressure the project has put on her personal life, as she spends too much time on set instead of enjoying family life with her husband Orlando Bloom and their two-year-old daughter Daisy.
As some insiders revealed, Perry is embarrassed about spending so much time away from her family and is considering quitting American Idol to change focus and concentrate on what matters for her the most.
Besides, the singer has her own career to think about. Katy Perry's fans have been quite vocal about wanting to hear new music from her, as it has been three long years since the star released any new material. Because of American Idol, Perry is not even able to go on a worldwide tour because her schedule is too tight and she can't afford traveling abroad for an extended period of time.
If Katy Perry decides to leave American Idol, she will surely make the money ABC paid her by doing some stadium concerts.
