Does 28 Years Later Have a Post-Credits Scene? Here's What We Saw

Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later is finally in theaters, kicking off a brand-new trilogy for the franchise that started with rage-infected chaos back in 2002. And in true 2020s fashion, fans are asking the big question before the credits even roll:
Do you need to stay after the movie?
Short answer: No. There's no post-credits scene in 28 Years Later, mid or otherwise. Once the movie ends, you're free to leave without worrying you missed some shadowy sequel tease buried at the very end.
That said, the movie does set up the next installment — it just does it before the credits hit.
The ending focuses on Spike, who ditches the safety of his island and heads to the mainland alone. At first, it's a quiet, almost symbolic moment — until a group of infected show up and ruin his solo fish-fry. Just when it looks bad, he's saved by a wild card: a man in a bright purple tracksuit and gold jewelry who calls himself Jimmy, played by Jack O'Connell.
And here's the twist: Jimmy is the same kid who survived the movie's opening sequence, now all grown up and very much thriving. He's not alone either — he's part of a gang of young, bleach-blond survivors in flashy tracksuits, all armed with spears and clearly capable of handling themselves.
Their look? Honestly jarring — and very intentionally so. The whole vibe is eerily reminiscent of Jimmy Savile, the disgraced British TV presenter whose massive crimes were only revealed after his death. The film seems to suggest a version of history where those crimes never came to light — which is… a choice.
Jimmy asks Spike if he wants to come with them. Spike doesn't answer. The movie ends.
That final scene lays the groundwork for the next chapter in the trilogy, titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is already set for release on January 16, 2026.
So no, there's nothing waiting in the credits. But if you stuck around just to make sure, don't worry — you're not alone. It's muscle memory at this point.
