There are two key factors that make the upcoming show better.

We're already two-thirds through 2023, yet the year continues to surprise us with numerous premieres despite obstacles such as the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes. The Last of Us, Silo, One Piece: these are just a few of the new shows we've been fortunate to enjoy this year. There's one more major premiere poised to entertain us before 2023 concludes

Just yesterday, Disney+ released a teaser for an upcoming fantasy series titled Percy Jackson and The Olympians, which has already generated considerable hype. Intriguingly, this won't be the first screen adaptation of Rick Riordan's novel series, as two movies were previously produced by 20th Century Fox in 2010 and 2013, respectively. However, the Disney+ series seems much more promising.

Impressive Cast

The forthcoming Percy Jackson and The Olympians series will be the second major project for Walker Scobell, who starred in The Adam Project alongside Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, and Jennifer Garner. Now, the fourteen-year-old actor is taking the lead in the Disney+ show, joined by Virginia Kull (Big Little Lies), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), and Lance Reddick, who sadly passed away in March.

Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri will portray Walker Scobell's on-screen friends. That alone makes the Disney+ adaptation sound way better than the two movies. Here's why.

Source Fidelity and Age Appropriate Actors

In the 20th Century Fox films, Percy, his friends, and their peers at the demigod camp are in their late teens. However, in Rick Riordan's novel, Percy is only twelve. In this regard, Disney+'s Percy Jackson and The Olympians appears more faithful to the original, seeing how it has age-appropriate actors in all the roles. For instance, Walker Scobell was only thirteen when he began work on the series.

Overall, it would appear that the upcoming series will honor Riordan's fan-favorite novels. Given that the author himself serves as an executive producer on the show, this is hardly surprising. We can thus anticipate a more accurate adaptation of the beloved fantasy stories many of us enjoyed in our childhoods.

The first two episodes will premiere on Disney+ on December 20.
