Did You Spot Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn's Son in Black Mirror Season 3?
Ex-hockey player Wyatt Russell starred in one episode back in 2016.
Equally famous and acclaimed actors, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together since 1983. Although they never married, the couple has raised three children — Oliver and Kate Hudson from Hawn's marriage to Bill Hudson and their son Wyatt Russell, born in 1986. All three of the Russell-Hawn kids went on to become actors, but while Kate and Oliver are pretty well-known, Wyatt failed to achieve the same level of popularity as his half-brother and sister.
However, you can probably remember seeing the ex-ice hockey player in a Season 3 episode of Black Mirror.
In the episode titled 'Playtest,' Wyatt Russell played Cooper, an American globe-trotter and the subject of a video game experiment. According to the plot, Cooper is left stranded in London without money, so he agrees to take part in a horror game test, which uses AI to project the player's individual fears onto them. Wyatt's character has a microchip implanted in his neck, and the gaming experiment starts off nicely but leads to a very dark ending.
Rated 8.1 on IMDb, 'Playtest' is still considered to be one of Black Mirror's best episodes, thanks to the gut-wrenching finale twist as well as Wyatt Russell's powerful performance as the main character.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter about his experience on Black Mirror, Wyatt revealed that he'd loved the show long before he participated in it. When the producers reached out to him to ask if he'd like to star in an episode, the actor immediately agreed. Despite the eeriness of the plot, 'Playtest' was not scary to film, according to Wyatt himself.
'It was a pretty normal shoot. A total blast. I never felt creeped out, but none of the things Cooper was seeing, including the spider thing, were there,' Wyatt Russell shared. 'It was more fun than creepy.'
Before Black Mirror, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's son had episodic roles on hit series like Law & Order: LA, Arrested Development, and The Walking Dead: The Oath. In 2021, Wyatt played John Walker in Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and appeared in Netflix's psychological thriller The Woman in the Window.
Wyatt Russell currently has three upcoming projects listed on his IMDb page, and we're looking forward to seeing more of the actor on both small and big screen.
