Fans loved another nod to Euphoria in the latest episode but not sure what to make of it.

Makeup is a means of self-expression, and in film and TV series, it provides a powerful way to convey characters' personalities. In this regard, Sam Levinson's hit show Euphoria was a perfect example of how the characters' makeup can be a direct extension of their inner selves, as the looks created by award-winning makeup artist Doniella Davy were unique, bold, and have left a profound impression on viewers.

Levinson himself seems to understand this perfectly, making great use of makeup once again in his new series The Idol.

The highly controversial show, which Levinson created in collaboration with The Weeknd and Reza Fahim, recently dropped its fourth episode on HBO, and fans noticed a remarkable makeup-related reference that's unlikely to be an ordinary coincidence.

The new episode of The Idol was no less problematic than the previous three, but it wasn't the characters' sociopathic behavior that surprised viewers this time. Many Sam Levinson fans were stunned to hear one line that apparently referenced the creator's earlier project.

'One thing was weird, Leia said she and Jocelyn have a makeup line called Half Magic. That is the name of the new makeup brand from the makeup artist for Euphoria,' one fan pointed out on Reddit.

As it turns out, Half Magic is a very real brand launched in May 2022 by Euphoria's makeup artist Donni Davy to help people 'look and feel as unique' as they truly are. Davy's brand praises self-expression and independence, so the reference in The Idol seems to be more of a melancholic irony given the position Jocelyn finds herself in. Unless, of course, she herself is an even more manipulative person than Tedros, as her delight in tantalizing Xander suggests.

Whatever the reference was meant to say, it was a satisfying nod to all those fans who can't get over Euphoria, and we're sure Sam Levinson has more Euphoria references in store for us in the final episodes of The Idol.

Episode 5 will be released on July 2, followed by Episode 6 on July 9, 2023.
