Nick Mohammed has confirmed the show made a nod to the iconic mockumentary.

Jason Sudeikis, a household name in the comedic acting world, boasts a wealth of experience, having starred in major comedy shows such as Saturday Night Live and hit movies including We're the Millers and Horrible Bosses. He is, in essence, a true comedy virtuoso.

With his astute comedic instincts, Sudeikis infused his latest show, Ted Lasso with numerous easter eggs referencing popular sitcoms. For instance, the season 3 finale features a cleverly modified quote from The Office's iconic dialogue.

The Ted Lasso third season finale features a plethora of transformative moments. One such instance is Nate's redemption arc culminating in his return to AFC Richmond. After a stint coaching the team's arch rivals for an entire season, he humbly accepts a position as kit man Will's assistant. However, Nate would insist that his correct title is 'an assistant TO the kit man', a phrase instantly rings a bell for The Office fans.

On Ted Lasso, the joke is played backwards, as on The Office, Dwight(Gareth in the original British series) always referred to himself as 'assistant regional manager', and Michael Scott(David Trent in the original British version) would then correct him, saying he was 'an assistant TO the regional manager'. In a Deadline interview, Nick Mohammed, who portrayed Nate on Ted Lasso, confirmed that his line was indeed a homage to the classic sitcom that kicked off the mockumentary craze in the naughties, specifically, the original British version.

'Completely, to the first one, the British one. I know that line from like, literally when I was a student. I was obsessed with The Office when it came out and I’d just watch it again and again,' the actor confirmed when he was asked if the line referred to the popular mockumentary.

According to Mohammed, Ted Lasso is replete with easter eggs referencing other shows and association football lore. This meticulous attention to detail significantly contributes to the show's masterpiece status. Now that it has concluded, the entire series is available for streaming on Apple TV+.
